Water Filters against Bottled Water

Water is one of the basic elements and nutrients our body needs. People all over the world have become concerned about the amount of water they drink and what is no less important about the quality of drinking water. For many years people have considered drinking water from the taps equipped with water filter safe. But more and more consumers start drinking bottled water nowadays. Company that produce bottled water promise healthier water than the water from the home water filters. The increasing demand for bottled water causes the rise in the amount of bottled water companies.

Several millions dollars per year is spent on the bottled water. But is this price justified by the quality of water in the bottles? And do we get actually pure and healthy water?

Not so long ago the Coca-Cola Company was blamed for misleading the consumers. One of the Coca-Cola brands, Dasani, has to face allegations. Dasani is advertised a pure spring water. But the Coca-Cola Company has now difficulties proving that Dasani bottles actually are filled with spring water and not with tap water. Of course the tap water they use has come from water purification systems but nevertheless…

And this is only one example. Several tests of bottled have been conducted. The results were shocking. Every third bottle is filled with tap water. Sometime the bottle that is marked as “pure spring water” is filled with water from a public water source. In other cases water is taken from springs that are situated near a waste dumping site. Even if this water comes from the taps equipped with water filters consumers were promised to get real pure spring water. To reach the same result you can install your own water purification system at home and get water of the same quality much cheaper.

These cases are treating as cheating. You pay money and expect to get tastier water of a high quality. Instead you have purified water from water filters.

So are you sure bottled water is worth the money you pay for it? Can you rely on its quality?

But what arises even more even greater surprise is the results of the blind taste test. In New York City people were asked to taste several kinds of water. They participants didn’t know where the water is taken from. And can you guess what happened? 75% of tested people said that tap water (from water purification systems) was tastier than bottled water.

Of course you can’t rely on the taste test results completely as tastes differ and good taste does not necessary means good quality. Nevertheless all these tests show that bottled water hardly has any advantages over tap water. Besides drinking water that has come through water purification process proves to be safer and more reliable than bottled water.
